Backstory

In the Fall of 2011 an evangelistic tool was released by Cru called Perspectives. Written by Barry Warren and designed & illustrated by Sarah, it is a deck of cards that helps you join another’s journey and talk about some of life’s deep questions.

Barry Warren spent one summer with us in NYC for the Tribeca Arts Summer Project in 2006. Here is what he said about his summer with us and the impact it had on the development of this new tool,

I learned two very important things while I was on the Tribeca summer project—they have had a profound impact on my ministry. First, I learned the importance of pushing my ideas. It’s important to give myself sufficient time to brainstorm ideas and then spend more time and energy [in] thinking through how they can be pushed past the obvious and superficial and into the realm of substance and effectiveness. Second, I learned that creativity is hard work. I once thought that someone either had inspiration or talent, to create something great, or [they didn’t]. Now, I understand that creating something truly worthwhile usually requires hard work, it can even be quite painful and draining. I believe that without learning these two powerful lessons during my summer staffing the Tribeca summer project, I wouldn’t have been able to create a new evangelism tool called Perspective.”

Question: What happened when a group of students who were skeptical about initiative evangelism tried something new?
Answer: 1,000 significant conversations sparked by a deck of cards and an attitude of listening.
